Simkin’s p60 is a period-60 oscillator from 2015, formed from two B60 conduits.

Keeping the loop running

The two conduits pass Herschels around a closed loop. Their reactions also produce gliders. At this period, those gliders would hit a subsequent Herschel before escaping safely.

Two eater-5 variants remove them early enough to keep the oscillator running. LifeWiki’s illustrated form has 70 cells.

The Simkin glider gun uses the same conduit interaction, with a different timing and arrangement that permits glider output. This oscillator instead suppresses the interfering gliders.

Later reductions and related constructions belong to their respective researchers. LifeWiki credits iNoMed’s 2023 mazing-based reduction and describes a later period-40 variant by Entity Valkyrie using a hassler found by Mitchell Riley.
